Cindy Jian

Cindy Jian was born in Guangzhou, China in 1991. She received her BFA and MA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2014.

This mural is a depiction of the Chinese phrase, “Ai Wu Ji Wu.” It is an ancient expression that translates to Love the House and the Crows. Figuratively used, it means “if you love someone, love the crows on his roof as well.” It is often used in formal and informal expressions to remind someone to tolerate the other’s defects in the name of love.
