Help [Save] The Box Shop

The Box Shop is proud to have served thousands of local artists and makers annually for almost 20 years! We want to continue.

Now, we are working to save The Box Shop for many more years by purchasing property by the end of our current lease in 2024. New developments are being proposed for our location, so we must find a long-term home to continue offering the space, tools, and collaborative opportunities to support the artistic community.

There is NO other place like The Box Shop!

Since late 2021 we have initiated efforts to help us strategize and fundraise to own our own space and property for the arts community. This is the only way to serve long-term, on our terms.

All donations are tax-deductible.

11.2022 – Help us build a 'Seed Fund' to [Save] The Box Shop!

We are building 'seed funding' of 150K to pull together the resources necessary to launch an entire fundraising campaign to acquire new space. The plan is to reach this goal by the end of the year. Resources include hiring a capital campaign consulting team to help our larger fundraiser be successful, a real estate feasibility analyst, and extra help to manage and coordinate our campaign work. So, in a nutshell, it costs money to raise money!

Timeline:

Fall 2022 – Capital Campaign consultants are retained to begin the first phase of work to initiate an official campaign to help us [Save] The Box Shop. They are a professional firm that has worked with many mission-driven organizations to help them strategize and fundraise the money needed to acquire a new building or fund building expansions or improvements.  A new commercial building with the space we need is estimated to cost $8-14 million.

Summer 2022 – Senator Scott Wiener approves our request of $1.7M to help our fundraising efforts to purchase a forever arts space and home. Thank you, we are ecstatic!

Spring 2022 – We build a proposal package for the Senator and reach out to our community to endorse our proposal and request support funding to help us purchase a space. 500+ of our network and arts community endorse our request. Thank you!

Winter-Spring 2022 – The Box Shop is met with an opportunity to approach State Senator Scott Wiener for his support. The Senator asks us to correspond with his leadership staff to request funds through the budgeting process to help support the area's arts, vitality, and economic opportunities.

Fall-Winter 2021 – The Box Shop owners, staff, and collaborators begin developing plans and language around saving The Box Shop and investigating the opportunity of financing and purchasing a space to sustain the Shop and community. The [Save] The Box Shop plan and campaign are conceived.

Summer-Fall 2021 – The Box Shop corresponds with the property owner to renew the lease. With much effort, we can only renew the lease for 3 more years, with no renewal option at the end of the term. Furthermore, rental rates are increased substantially along with other challenging terms.
